Māori education

Te Pou Taki Kōrero produces te reo Māori resources for teachers and students at all levels and any curricula in New Zealand classrooms.

Mā te ako ka mārama
Mā te mārama ka mātau
Mā te mātau ka ora.

By learning comes understanding
Through understanding comes knowledge and wisdom
Through knowledge and wisdom comes life and well-being.

Nā reira, e ngā mana, e ngā reo, e ngā karangatanga maha o te ao, tēnā koutou katoa.

We publish student and teacher materials in te reo Māori on behalf of the Ministry of Education for use in the Māori-medium education sector. We align all our materials to Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and our years 1–8 instructional materials to Ngā Whanaketanga Rūmaki Māori.

Our community networks and relationships are central to the way we work. Throughout our processes, we value a sense of extended family. Our collaborative way of working gives us the means to do what we do – produce authentic, robust, and innovative materials. Of course, Te Reo Māori me ōna Tikanga (language and culture) underpins and defines all our work.

We develop our resources based on an improvement framework, so we rely on evidence from both trialling and current research to inform our practice.

Across Te Pou Taki Kōrero, the sharing of our knowledge enhances the work and knowledge of the entire company.

We share a vision of improved Māori student achievement and success. Our dream is to make a real difference to Māori learners.

Methodology

Our methodology expresses why we work the way we do. We apply this thinking to every service we provide and every resource we create.
